Try-day Friday – Dare to be brave with your next outfit

How often do you try on an amazing new outfit, take a look in the mirror and then chuck it to the the back of your wardrobe and opt for something you ALWAYS wear.

It’s probably something black isn’t? We’ve all been there… every day… trust me.

I was recently inspired by Dia&Co, an online subscription box, and their ‘Try-Day Friday’ project to encourage self-esteem and I couldn’t wait to get on board. From today onwards,  Friday isn’t just the last day before the weekend (hallelujah!) it’s so much better. Friday brings us the opportunity to get over our fears of bold colours, short skirts and tight tops!

Everyone feels insecure from time-to-time whether it be a fear of showing off that extra bit of skin or ALWAYS turning to the same practical items in your wardrobe. We all like to hide our perceived flaws – I am definitely guilty of this too – but really we should be embracing them because life would be SO boring if everyone looked the same.

Everyone is beautiful in their own individual way, so let’s all bite the bullet and wear that daring outfit that we bought God knows how long ago and STILL haven’t worn!
Gone are the days of hiding behind a boring wardrobe and only imagining ‘pulling off’ your dream outfits from Style Icons’ Instagram posts !

My outfit wishlist (fears)

I’ve put together some of my dream outfits I’d love to wear but happen to find my self saying the same phrases whenever pI go to try them on.

‘It’s too bold’

  1. Pink cropped faux fur jacket, bluebanana.com £28
  2. Black floral print pencil skirt, River Island £30
  3. Gold tiered statement necklace, GILT.com £23
  4. Pink faux fur crossbody bag, SoleSociety.com £36
  5. Gold sock boot with block heel, River Island £25

I always like to shy away from clothes with too much colour, fabric and pattern- purely because I hate to stand out in a crowd.

I probably own at least 5 different midi skirts but I’m so self conscious about my short stumpy legs… that – yep you guessed it – they’re obviously hidden in dust at the back of my wardrobe.

This is probably the reason I always end up wearing the same clothes I feel comfortable in without drawing too much attention to myself.

‘It’s too OTT- I’m not a bloody supermodel’

  1. Burgundy dress, Topshop £62
  2. Black fedora hat, Belk.com £39
  3. Black over-the-knee boots, pilotuk.com £50

I dream about wearing numerous fedora hats whenever I’m booking city breaks away… please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?! Haha! But whenever it comes to packing my suitcase I’m just never brave enough because I just think other people will be like ‘who does she think she is trying to pull off a Kendal Jenner look’!

‘It’s not my style’

Blue velvet choker bralett, prettylittlething.com £8.43

Leather skater skirt, boohoo.com £15

Red and black checked shirt, rosegal.com £9.52

Matte red lipstick, Charlotte Tilbury £23

So many items in my wardrobe are spontaneous buys – often in the sale and naughty treats to myself – but far too many of them aren’t worn. This is purely because I don’t think they ‘suit my style’ (whatever that is?!) and imagine they would just look better on someone else.

MY TRY-DAY OOTD

Try-day is the perfect opportunity to bring out the clothes you’ve always wanted to try, but have been too scared to.

I’ve combined all my fears together in this one outfit and although I felt stupid in too much colour, patterns, fur and skin on show by the end of the day I was actually strutting around with confidence! I was feeling so brave I even brought out the red lipstick!!

Checked pattern midi skit, Topshop

Crop faux fur khaki jacket, Missguided

Black gold pendant choker, New Look

Lilac glitter cami, Topshop

Red strappy heels, New Look

Red lipstick, Rimmel

If I can do it you can too! I challenge you to wear that leather mini skirt, flaunt those Boho flares, and try on those daunting high heels, even if you’re hesitant. Brush aside your fears and rock the outfit you’ve always admired with absolute confidence!
I hope I can given you some inspiration and motivation to face your own fashion fears next Try-Day. I promise you will ALL look and feel GREAT!

What to wear on Valentine’s Day 2017 – OOTD inspiration for the most romantic day of the year

February 14 is fast approaching which means if you’re not being spoiled by a love one (which is great) it is still just as a good enough excuse to eat heart-shaped chocolate while watching your favourite rom-coms or cheers-ing the gal squad with plenty of cocktails and wine.

No matter what you’re plans are this Tuesday it’s time to pamper yourself and bring out your most girliest of outfit choices to get you in the mood for romance.

My OOTD

What I’m wearing…

  1. Heart-shaped pendant necklace, Tiffany & Co (gift from the boyf)
  2. Black lacy cami, Topshop
  3. Pastel pink tailored coat, Missguided
  4. Black flora print mini tube skirt, prettylittlething.com
  5. Red strappy heels, New Look
  6. Grey clutch bag, Guess (I got it for a bargain $10 in the US outlet sales!!)

I’ve kept my make-up pretty minimal to highlight the red lipstick but have also painted my nails in grey glitter to give the look some sparkle.

My top picks of Valentine’s Day looks

Cosy night in

  1. Red knit crop jumper, makemechic.com £18
  2. Floral print denim jeans, prettylittlething.com £32

  2. Strappy black heels, stylesforless £26
  3. Floral print clutch bag, Target £12

How To Create a Capsule Wardrobe

How To Create a Capsule Wardrobe

    And still be a fashionista

Is your New Year’s resolution to finally save some money, but you just so happen to be a serious shopaholic? Well you’re in the same boat as me. (Read More: How to Keep Your New Years Resolutions) I am constantly making plans to travel the world and telling myself I WILL save money, just after I buy these shoes… that go perfectly with this dress. Yes, it happens every time, and of course I still haven’t made enough for my dream trip.

Well this New Year is going to be different and it can be for you too – whether you want to save to travel to paradise or buy yourself that one designer handbag you’ve had your eye on. You just need to get yourself the perfect Capsule Wardrobe and your goals will be met in no time.

    screen-shot-2016-12-13-at-17-58-29

    What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

In simplest terms, a capsule wardrobe is an extremely downsized wardrobe made up of versatile staple pieces. The idea originates from 1970s London, when boutique owner Susie Faux coined the term. Designer Donna Karan then brought the idea to the U.S. a decade later with her “seven easy pieces” collection. Traditionally, capsule wardrobes include approximately 30 items or less, with Faux recommending less than 12. The wardrobe can be added to a couple times a year.

The definition of a capsule wardrobe has evolved over time thanks to ideas from style bloggers like Un-Fancy, whose capsule wardrobe includes 37-pieces rotated every three months.

At its core, a capsule wardrobe is ultimately meant to promote a minimalist style and save money, time, and space — things I’m all for! To me, a capsule wardrobe should include ever-lasting clothes and reusable accessories that will take you from the office to the dance floor without your friends hearing you say, ‘but I haven’t anything to wear – I need a new outfit’ for the 100 billionth time!

I’ve been busy collaborating with Betabrand.com to come up with the essential wardrobe I believe every woman needs to save them time, money, and hassle for every morning and every event.

    Capsule Wardrobe Essentials Checklist

To save money, time and effort you want your wardrobe to be full of gorgeous items that can be everyday wear for the office and can easily be accessorised to take you through to the after work drinks and spontaneous night-time dancing. If you love the items you’ve chosen, you will always enjoy wearing them over and over again, styling them in new ways.

These are the 6 essentials you need to own and can easily purchase online to complete your capsule wardrobe.

    1. PantsMy pick: High-waisted dress pant yoga trousers £61.50, Betabrand.com
    2. SkirtMy pick: Nude faux leather pencil skirt £13.32, Choies.com
    3. Crisp White Shirt My pick: Fitted white shirt £12.99, H&M
    4. Statement Necklace My pick: Statement silver necklace £29.97, humblechic.com
    5. Black Handbag My pick: Black zip handbag £25.99, New Look
    6. Boots My pick: Knit-trim black ankle boots £20.33, charlotterusse.com

[Insert image here with image alt text that says “capsule wardrobe essentials”]

The most versatile item on this list is definitely the Betabrand pants. I love these pants because they are the ideal office trousers – comfy, stylish and smart – yet totally multi-functional. The stretchy material gives you the flexibility to still do yoga after work or in your lunch-break and the skinny leg gives you a flattering shape when paired with heels and sparkles for a night out.

Hallelujah to the 2-in-1 amazing trousers! They also come in every style to suit your body shape including Cropped-leg for petites.

    screen-shot-2016-12-13-at-17-24-46

Black is a great colour to opt for because it goes with everything but I also love the dark grey yoga pants too which are just as everyday.

Once you’ve got your comfy trousers in a classic shade you need one more option for work – a simple and smart pencil skirt. I chose this faux leather midi because it’s a fab neutral shade to pair with a crisp white shirt for work or crop tops for the evenings. Find the pair of women’s pants you love most here.

How to Build Your Own Stylish Capsule Wardrobe

These are my steps to curating your own capsule wardrobe, without sacrificing style or the joy we all get from fashion.

Step 1 — Clean Out Your Closet

Firstly – do you really need everything that’s in your wardrobe? We both know the answer is No. So don’t wait until Spring — have a wardrobe clean out today and get on Vinted or eBay to make some extra money. Those poor clothes that still have their tags on need a caring home. It’s just plain clothes cruelty! Check out my Vinted page for cheap dresses, tops, jumpers, trousers and skirts for sale in great condition.

Step 2 — Pick Your Essentials

Once you’ve gotten rid of what you know you don’t want, it’s time to sort what’s left into three categories:

    1. Currently love / wear
    2. Seasonal
    3. Other

Guess what happens to the “other” category? That’s right — go back to step one and get rid of those clothes!

Make sure you do this for each piece of clothing — bottoms, tops, accessories, and shoes.

    Step 3 — Compromise

Now, building a capsule wardrobe can be an unexpectedly emotional and difficult process. That’s why I think it’s important to compromise and give yourself a little wiggle room on your favourite part of fashion, meaning allow yourself to have a little more in this area. For me, that’s accessorizing.

When i’m planning what to wear, accessories are often the favourite part of my outfit and can even be the main asset to show off (that’s why classic clothes are always good to help them stand out!)

If you’re like me and accessories are your thing, think bold statement but neutral shades of additions that can easily be paired with your essential outfit. Sparkly jewels, chunky black boots and a sturdy tailored handbag (big enough to fit all of your daily necessities!) are just what you need to tick off all the essential items on your shopping list.

    Step 4 — Make Outfits

Once you have your essentials, start pairing them with each other to make sure you can make a number of outfits with them that will keep you excited and happy. Did you know that with just 27 pieces you can make 100 outfits!? The possibilities are endless, so bring your creativity and imagination with you.

Step 5 — Continue to Reassess

Set a schedule that works for you when it comes to refining your capsule wardrobe and going through the above steps. This can be the well-known 3 month rule, or more or less often, depending on how you feel. Again, we don’t want to take the joy out of the fashion we love, so figure out what works for you. The number one rule is that you LOVE what you own and wear. The moment you don’t, it’s time for a change!

I hope this blog post has given you some New Year inspiration to get yourselves a Capsule Wardrobe.

Lingerie for your next ‘Netflix and Chill’ date

    It’s official. Winter is back.

Now that I’ve forced my parents to drive all of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe up to London and trek back my – yes hundreds of – summer clothes, it means there are a lot more cosy nights in on the horizon for me and bae.

I’m most definitely not a big Winter weather fan. As you can probably tell from my blog posts… I’m more of a Summer girl. However, get me on a rainy minus-whatever-degrees day and I will be VERY excited about having a cosy night in my jammies with my favourite mug of hot chocolate!

So with some inspiration from Adore me’s new Fall collection, I’ve put together some date night outfits to impress that special someone for when you’re snuggling under the duvet on those icy evenings.

    Lingerie must-haves for Winter 2016

Well, matching undies is obviously a necessity. I can’t be the only the one who thinks this? Wearing a matching bra and knickers instantly puts me in a good mood.

I can guarantee wearing any pair of these Adore me underwear sets above will kick start your day with happiness – not only because they are gorgeous but because a set costs as little as £20.

    Pair with…

My favourite way to compliment your undies on a night in is with a kimono gown or a comfy casual jumper plus pretty accessories too!

Plus all of these are a must on my handy ‘Night In’ checklist
    Netflix and Chill checklist

    1. You’re favourite matching undies and slippers
    2. A cosy jumper, cardigan or dressing gown
    3. Something to snuggle under – maybe even a snuggie or one of those new mermaid blankets?!
    4. Hot chocolate with ALL the trimmings. I can NEVER say no to whipped cream and marshmallows… and a flake!
    5. Finally – my favourite. Naughty treats – obviously something chocolate-related!

After my upcoming boozy camping weekend I can guarantee next Sunday will consist of me and bae watching Breaking Bad with our favourite chocy bars, peanut butter cup ice cream, chocolate popcorn and probably some Tim Tams too.

    Untitled.png

Far too often, hangover Sundays exist in my weekend. Does anyone else have that awkward pause on Monday mornings when your boss asks what you got up to at the weekend? I mean… Should you tell them you got absolutely trollied on Saturday night and almost faked your own death to avoid work the next morning because the hangover was still so bad.
No. You use your Netflix binge to your advantage explaining ‘how relaxing your CHILLED weekend was finishing the House of Cards TV series and learning more interesting facts about Brendan Dassey in Making a Murderer’.

Just follow my steps above for the perfect cosy night in and you won’t even care if you haven’t been out of the house.

What to wear to watch the Super Bowl 50?

NFL Superbowl 2016 is just around the corner, and whether you are lucky enough to be be watching at the Levi’s stadium in California or chucking back some beers cheering at the tele, it is important to get your look on point. If you are looking for NFL tickets, or any other tickets for that matter, be sure to check out TickPick!

I have put together a few match-day outfit ideas for whatever style you are going for and to keep you looking stylish and bang on-trend this season. And of course you don’t have to break the budget to look fabulous.

If you’re a die-hard football fan you need a game-day outfit to match and show your support for the team.

Are you a fashion expert or a fashion failure?

Are you thinking the same as me? ‘Please can the answer be that I am a fashion expert and the whole of my wardrobe (which features outfits I’ve only ever even worn once) hasn’t been a huge disaster over all these years.’

Well Farfetch brings you the moment of truth with this awesome quiz called Guess the designer. Do you know your Versace from your Vera Wang. And do you know them under pressure?

The timed quiz will put your designer knowledge to the test, asking you to distinguish iconic garments of the famous brands.

    #FridayFavourites || The bomber jacket

I am absolutely loving the bomber jacket trend for this Autumn/Winter season. There’s something a little bit Grease Lightning about this look that will give your outfit a real retro feel! But if you don’t feel like going the full monty in a Pink Ladies get-up, opt for a classic khaki or navy shade- the perfect colour to style any off-duty winter look.

Bomber jackets are an essential for these cold casual days- multi-tasking to shelter your body from the rain whilst keeping you cosy and warm. I love Topshop’s range of the faux fur addition to bombers- keeping you super snug inside its fluffy lining.

    Khaki bomber £20, WEARALL.com

    Contrasting flower jacket £20, YOINS.com

    Wine zip bomber £18, PRETTYLITTLETHING.com

Navy lace sleeve jacked £28, SHOPJUSTICE.com

Faux fur monochrome bomber £38, Topshop

    Wear your bomber with….

I’ve just purchased myself a navy bomber from a shopoholic’s app called Vinted and I already can’t wait to style my new jacket!
