#FridayFavourites: Tactile textures

Whenever I’m shopping I can’t help but touch and stroke bags and fabrics that look like they have a unique texture and for this Spring/Summer season shops are full of them.

Tactile textures like leather, creamy suede, tassels and fringing have the ability transform your look from biker gal, to hippy chick right through to rocking up at a Great Gatsby party! They are a great asset to any fashionista’s wardrobe.

Tassles V Fringing

Fringe has always been one of the most steady and never changing fashion trends of almost any season, always coming up with some new interpretations and design combinations- some made with interesting textures like suede or leather on shoes tops and bags! Fringe detailing is even more powerful this season- bringing a boho/wild west style to any outfit.

Apart from the season’s hottest trend of using fringe details, flirty and playful tassels also add fab detailing to spice up and glam up even the simplest pieces. So if it’s not fringe, then it’s tassels, and you are going to see a lot of creative interpretations of the tassel trend this Spring- as you have on the Spring/Summer 2015 catwalks!

Leather

Leather is amazing- It can be worn as just a small accent to make any off-duty minimalist outfits look spectacular, or be the centerpiece fabric to create a statement-outfit.

The tactile fabric has been spotted in the major fashion capitals during the recent fashion weeks too- so get some of it in your wardrobe for this Spring/Summer 2015! The classy trend- sold both in the traditional shades and bright hues for attracting extra attention- is a must-have for the fans of the luxury and the classy style.

My favourite faux leather picks are:

Leather pocket A Line skirt- Warehouse £65

Playful square neck shift dress- Missguided £25

Sagittarius platform shoes- Topshop £58

Compete with Kim and Rita with your own take on pink latex with this PU salmon mini dress from Missguided at £35. Who wears the look best now?

Forever Unique Nell faux trousers in red- Van Mildert £35

Mint velvet bluebell faux biker jacket- House of Frazer £129

Rose gold metallic leather skirt- River Island £12

Go for a bold statement outfit by mixing the leather and tassel trends together. I love this faux leather tassel waterfall jacket from Missguided at £40. Such a bargain!

Suede

Pieces with suede textures are by far one of the trendiest and catchiest looks this season. Whether the tactile fabric is on outerwear like biker jackets and tailored coats, or basic garments like mini skirts and shoes, it creates a chic statement look.

In the shops there are lots of subtle suede garments in brown shades and creamy pastel colours- perfect for this time of year, while bright red and orange tones are also on offer to create bold statement looks.

Get some suede in your wardrobe with some inspiration from my favourite finds:

DIY: how I glammed up my mittens

I don’t know about you but when it comes to buying clothes and accessories, I always have the perfect vision of an item I want in my head and expect to see it in the shop, but can never find exactly what I am looking for.

After loosing one of my FAVOURITE pairs of mittens and with the weather being so freezing, I was desperate to find a new set of gloves just as fab! What I loved about my old pair was that they were just so girlie and cute with lace and bows. So I was a women on a mission to find a new favourite…or create my own.

The best I could find were these navy blue finger less gloves from Accessorize in the sale at £7.50. I loved the design of the sequins and gems, and the silver and pastel blue colours of them too, but whenever I wore them the pretty pattern was hidden under my coats and jumpers 😦

So I decided why not create my own pattern for the top of the gloves and to my surprise it worked out very easy and therapeutic to do.

My grandma is AMAZING when it comes to things like this- she can literally make anything, from handbags and chunky knit cardigans, to ornaments and plates. I took her out for coffee and asked her for some inspiration and some help.

She showed me her collections of haberdashery- I was in ribbon and lace heaven. The funnest bit was deciding what pattern I wanted to create which I kind of already had in mind but now with so many choices of different coloured ribbon, lace and cute beads, I found it hard to decide. I did get a bit carried away with testing ideas but eventually found the perfect look for my mittens.

I wanted to stick with the colour scheme of blues and created this design:

  • Electric blue ribbon
  • Pretty white lace
  • Sparkly blue and silver thin ribbon
  • Powder blue bow

It was so easy to do considering I am nowhere near as talented as my grandma! You just need some cotton to match the colours your adding together (I used blue and white), needles for sowing, pins for keeping the pattern in place and a good eyesight for threading!

image1 image4 (1)

My grandma gave me her adorable foam jumper to stick my pins and needles in so I couldn’t lose them- and believe me they are easy to lose sight of.

Once I had sown everything to the large bit of blue ribbon I then sowed it onto the mittens and I was so pleased with the final look!

My sister loved them so much she’s even asked me to decorate her a pair.  I hope you like them too!

Statement necklace heaven!

Image

Since moving to London I’ve been doing a hell of a lot of shopping. If you are looking for a statement necklace or have an addiction to them like myself, then have a look around Spitalfields Market in Shoreditch- so many lovely fashion and accessory items to add to your wardrobes.

My purchase of the day

I absolutely love statement necklaces at the moment and have started gathering a bit of a collection. I have been looking for a flower-shaped statement necklace like this all over London for the last week and I am so glad I have now found the perfect one!

Be cosey AND stylish this winter!

My Jasper Conran fur headband from Debenhams

My Jasper Conran fur headband from Debenhams

I absolutely love fur headbands and have wanted one for the past two years, ever since I saw the gorgeous Pixie Lott looking amazing (like she does in everything) wearing one one of her outings. I wanted to buy one last year for fireworks night but its the type of item in your wardrobe that is a big risk.

A fur head band is one of those things that when you put it on you just can’t help but ask yourself… ‘Do I suit this, or do I just look like and idiot? And sometimes you just answer with… ‘It’s probably best to leave this trend to Cara Delevingne’

Well I was brave today! I manned up and bought one and I promise you all it is the best accessory I have ever purchased. As soon as I stepped out into minus degrees tonight, I thought to myself where would I be without this warm raccoon on my head? Of course it’s not really the real fur of a raccoon, I only do faux! But my head instantly felt cosy. I didn’t even care if it didn’t suit me. I was warm!

I definitely recommend you go out and buy yourselves one. I bought mine from Jasper Conran in Debenhams and with the 20% store discount and my extra staff discount, I was in for a winner with it costing under a tenner! What an absolute bargain for something that is bang on-trend this season as well as preventing me from hypothermia!
