Mother’s Day Gift Guide – From personalised present ideas to mother and daughter days out

Stuck for thoughts on what to get your mum for mother’s day this Sunday?

If your mum is anything like mine- she already has everything you think she could ever need! Well this was the dilemma for me this year because every present idea I thought of i’d already got her before as a gift or she has three!

To help everyone who is struggling too, I’ve gone on a hunt for some gifts that are much better than flowers and will make you look really thoughtful.

Top 5 ideas for all the lovely mum’s out there… who already have everything:

1. Afternoon Tea with a difference

afternoon-tea

Now my mum is very much an afternoon tea fanatic and although she has probably already had enough for a lifetime- these special afternoon tea packages are far from the standard to give a unique twist on the special day. From Afternoon Tea after a Segway tour, to boozy packages and high tea in a castle – there are SO many options.

Wherever you are across England there are a lot of places and options to choose from (with discounts too)– be it boozy, creative or scenic. You can’t go wrong really! Plus I don’t think you can ever actually have enough tea and cake!

2. Personalised scented candles £14.99

personalised-scented-candle---keep-calm-i-love-you_a

For mums who love to light up their home with candles and nice smells. My mum loves candles and they are a very popular present she receives from me and my sister but this gives it a special personalised touch and a home to put her collection of candles in! You can write any message you want and there are lots of different styles of candles and designs to choose from over at gettingpersonal.co.uk.

3. Pamper Day/Mother and Daughter break

th

Let’s face it we all like to unwind and have a little bit of pampering every now and then and what a great excuse for you to treat yourself too while giving your mum something special! There are plenty of 2 for 1 offers on spa days and and mini breaks across the country. From chocolate manis and pedis in London to the ultimate spa getaway with afternoon tea- there are so many tempting offers over at lastminute.com.

4. Monthly Surprise Hammock

hammock

I don’t think you can get much more thoughtful than this… giving presents to your mum every month for a year is most definitely going to get you brownie points over your siblings this mother’s day and keep her sweet all-year-round. If your mum is a jet-setter like mine or always dreaming about where to go next on holiday, then the monthly themes of selected products from different destinations will allow her to have a much needed getaway without even leaving home. Each Hammock Pack is filled with a mix of food, bath products, housewares, and accessories you’ll only find while visiting the cities.

5. Personalised Drink Coasters, £15

original_personalised-photo-drinks-coasters

A bad habbit of my mum’s is definitely wacking out the family photo album whenever she has guests over and the pictures of me really shouldn’t ever be allowed to be shared in public especially when boys come over! Well this adorable personalised present could be a nifty trick into distracting my mum away from the hideous album of baby snaps!! She can have a new thing to show off with pictures chosen by me that aren’t so embarrassing! And because the notonthehighstreet gift comes in a set of four- I can  be cheeky and create coasters with any photo of my dad and sister I like…whether they do or not. 😛

And in case you’ve totally forgotten there is still time to get a little something!

Hope this has given you some help with ideas and you all have a lovely Sunday!

Beauty sale haul at the office!

It’s not everyday you get an amazing beauty haul like this for just £2 and without having to barely move from your desk at work. That is definitely one of the perks of where I work- the Notebook Magazine’s beauty team will occasionally hold a sale of beauty products featuring make-up, pamper gift sets, fake tan, hair treatments and it’s not just the cheap stuff either they’re all the fab brands too! I’m not great at maths but 5 things, that wouldn’t necessarily be in my current spending budget, for just £2 is an amazing deal!

What I’ve added to my beauty bag:

Morrocon argon oil- I love nourishing my hair with argon oil every now and then and since i’ve been using it I’ve definitely seen a huge improvement to my dry, damaged, bleached and split-ended hair! So i’m very glad I now have some more.

Barry M Nail Varnish- I’ve wanted to try Barry M’s new ‘Sunset Daylight Curating’ collection for a while now and I particularly loved this colour. Blue shades are always a favourite of mine for all-season manicures and this totally stood out to me! I was letting no-one at work get their hands on this as soon as I saw it. I coudln’t wait to try it out and was so pleased when I used it- the paint literally dried in about 30 seconds. Didn’t even need to fear about smudging!

Co Lab Dry Shampoo- I thought this miniature bottle would be perfect for taking to Ibiza as I can only take a small amount of luggage for the journey. Dry shampoo is definitely a hair essential especially for the occasional on-the-go greasy hair days! This one smells gorgeous too with its lush fresh summer smell.

No 7 Nail Varnish- I don’t think there has ever come a summer season when i’ve not worn coral nail varnish, either on my toes or my fingers, it’s always been a summer must-have shade for me!

Bare Minerals Primer I was so happy when I saw this in the make-up box as I had literally just days before ran out of mine at home! I love using this before nights out for that extra coverage and it really helps keep your make-up on all night- without having to worry about doing a touch up.

I’d never been to one of the sales before but oh my god it was carnage! Women were coming from everywhere- huge bags at the ready to get their bargains. I would have probably came out with a hell of a lot more if it wasn’t so claustrophobic and their wasn’t so much wrist slapping in the make-up bins! Next time I’m going to go in all guns blazing!

Beat the January blues with some bargain buys

It’s that time again… you’ve finished off every box of mince pies in the house, stuffed yourself with chocolate and drank enough alcohol to still feel hungover when you woke up for work yesterday morning. This can only mean one thing… the January blues have arrived and it’s back to hearing that early morning alarm and joining the dreaded commute to work.

But the start to 2015 doesn’t have to be as miserable as the weather and neither does your wardrobe!

At this time of year all I want to do is get away to somewhere hot- a tropical island like St. Barts would do great! Unfortunately my purse can’t stretch that far… but it can stretch to some great bargains I’ve found in the January sales. Buying new clothes will always brighten my day no matter how dull and rainy the weather is.

If you haven’t shopped the January sales yet, here some great bargains I have picked out:

jan bargains

Light orange cross strap platform sandals River Island £55- £25

Lace bralet comes in black, green and burgandy Topshop £22- £10

Biker coat in wool blend H&M £34.99- £20

Floral bodycon midi dress Boohoo £22- £12

Pink wrap skort New Look £18- £13

Leather Chelsea ankle boots ASOS £60- £30

I don’t know about you but whenever I shop in the sale I can tend to get very carried away and sometimes end up buying things I don’t even need just because “it’s only a fiver”. My wardrobe is already stuffed to the brim so I decided this New Year I would keep these tips in the back of my mind to make sure I don’t go crazy on every shopping spree…

Tips for shopping the sale:

  1. Know what gaps need to filled in your wardrobe.
  2. Think ahead and plan outfits for upcoming occasions and events.
  3. Ask yourself, would I buy this if it wasn’t on sale?
  4. Always try the items on in store to save the hassle of exchanging/credit notes.
  5. Invest in items you know you will wear again and again.

Happy sales shopping and Happy New Year!

My Jasper Conran fur headband from Debenhams

My Jasper Conran fur headband from Debenhams

I absolutely love fur headbands and have wanted one for the past two years, ever since I saw the gorgeous Pixie Lott looking amazing (like she does in everything) wearing one one of her outings. I wanted to buy one last year for fireworks night but its the type of item in your wardrobe that is a big risk.

A fur head band is one of those things that when you put it on you just can’t help but ask yourself… ‘Do I suit this, or do I just look like and idiot? And sometimes you just answer with… ‘It’s probably best to leave this trend to Cara Delevingne’

Well I was brave today! I manned up and bought one and I promise you all it is the best accessory I have ever purchased. As soon as I stepped out into minus degrees tonight, I thought to myself where would I be without this warm raccoon on my head? Of course it’s not really the real fur of a raccoon, I only do faux! But my head instantly felt cosy. I didn’t even care if it didn’t suit me. I was warm!

I definitely recommend you go out and buy yourselves one. I bought mine from Jasper Conran in Debenhams and with the 20% store discount and my extra staff discount, I was in for a winner with it costing under a tenner! What an absolute bargain for something that is bang on-trend this season as well as preventing me from hypothermia!
