St Patrick’s Day nails: Put a bit of the Irish into your manicure

St Patrick’s Day 2017 has arrived – which is the perfect excuse to get drunk, wear green and look silly.

I’ve put together some of my favourite St Patrick’s Day inspired nail designs to help you on your way to celebrating the special Irish-themed day.

Of course all of these nail art ideas are super easy to do if you’re in a rush to hit the pubs and start on your pints of Guinness or shots of whiskey.

St Patrick’s Day nail ideas

Top tips

  1. Invest in a decent green nail varnish and nail art pens in black, green or white
  2. Use eBay or Amazon to find nail art pens for a decent price
  3. Always use a base coat… and a top coat
  4. If you have short nails, buy some natural fake nails to decorate on – either in a nude or clear shade (you can buy a box for £1 in Primark)
  5. Do 2 layers of your base colour before adding nail art
  6. Test the nail art pens on tissue or a spare false nail beforehand to check colour and consistency
  7. Dots and stripes are easy patterns for beginners but with a bit of practice you’ll be drawing the shamrock in no time
  8. Gems and glitter are always pretty additions
  9. Experiment with a mixture of patterns and colours – different designs look cute on individual nails

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

Easy how to make avocado face mask

Sunday night calls for a pamper night! Yes it is the one evening I try my best to spend a couple of hours just relaxing… and what better way to to do that than with a face mask.

Me and my housemate are always experimenting new recipes but this time we went the extra mile and decided to try a nutritional recipe for your FACE. The veggie, considered as one of the healthiest foods on the planet, is not only enjoyed for it’s tastiness in guacamole but also known for it’s nutritional and healing benefits for skin.

Personally, I actually can’t stand avocado- but my ozzy housemate and everyone else i know love it! So I trialled on Sarah. The veggie deeply hydrates and nourishes skin without any irritation so it is suitable for all skin types – particularly dry and de-hydrated skin. It is also ideal for removing make-up!

This DIY at-home face mask is so easy to make with just three ingredients and three simple steps. This recipe makes enough for two masks.

Ingredients:IMG_1575

  • Half an avocado
  • 2 tsp of honey
  • 2 tbsp of water

Steps:

  1. Mash the avocado
  2. Stir all the ingredients together
  3. Apply over face

I decided to give this Passion deep cleansing face mask a go from Boots – thought I would treat myself on my loyalty card points and I’d never tried a peel off one before. As you can see… it comes out very different to how it looks on the packet. Instead of having a pretty light pink cream on my face, I actually just look heavily sunburned!! My skin did feel pretty soft afterwards though.

Have a go and see what you think with this super easy face mask recipe!

#MidweekManicure || Festive Sparkle

Tis’ the season for Christmas parties, mulled wine and festive sparkle. ALWAYS my favourite time of the year because I’m not the only one obsessing over anything with sequins and going OTT on the glitter.

To match my sparkly and Christmasy mood, as I was getting ready for my work Xmas party,  I decided to treat my nails to a a Christmas tree-inspired manicure!

IMG_0848

I just love the festive dark green colour and making my nails look bold with glitter. Plus it was super easy to do.

I used my dark shimmery green L & B polish as the base colour- I love this varnish because its subtle sparkle isn’t too bold but will catch and shine in different lights.

I topped the base colour with my w7 green tinted glitter polish which always looks great on top of other colours to enhance the sparkle spectrum.

And to go the extra mile for the Christmas do I added a few sprinkles of glitter from my Avon Colour Trend pot to each thumb and third finger. I set the glitter and coated all of my nails with a clear top coat to give it extra shine and hold.

I did this manicure last Monday and the glitter and polis are still going strong. I always make sure to keep my sparkly nails going through to the end of the Christmas party season.

I hope you have a go at some DIY festive nails this season too and find your favourite festive manicure. Happy partying this Christmas!

MOTD || #BreastCancerAwareness

For my first ever #MakeupOfTheDay post I have decided to something extra special… support the #WearItPink campaign as October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I don’t think it would surprise anyone I know that my make-up bag (and wardrobe!) features a hell of a lot of pink. Just yesterday my housemate joked about how she was hanging up her washing which looked ‘so dull and morbid’ compared to my bright hanging clothes of various shades of pink and coral. I love the colour, who cares if it’s winter?!

Inside my make-up bag…

Pink lipstick and blushers are a staple beauty item especially bright coral shades for the summer and subtle candy pastel shades for the winter.

Tried and tested PINK must-haves

My personal favourites and key pink essentials for my make-up bag are my No7 blusher in Coral Blush and my Mac lipstick in PLINK. I would definitely recommend these products to anyone and also for you all to get on and do your #MOTD blog post for Breast Cancer Awareness and donate online.

Beauty Regime || Treat Aging Skin Early

I know what you’re thinking… Do I really need to be worrying about this right now?

I turned 20 a few months ago and I’m already feeling old- being told to “be careful in the sunshine” because it will give me wrinkles, and watching my friends get so excited over eating a type of food that is apparently “anti-aging”. I’ve barely even got rid of my teenage spots and now I need to worry about getting wrinkles!?

But after reading some top advice over on Health Perch I’ve come up with a new skincare regime to help minimise all the skin damage i’ve probably already caused and will continue doing to my skin. I think mainly by drinking and tanning- but cocktails and the beach are my favourite things :/

Following their advice I have come up with a new beauty regime which should help protect my skin and prevent any signs of aging like wrinkles and droopiness in the future. Droopiness and wrinkles on my face? No thank you!

  1. Use a light facial moisturiser with sun protection daily to protect from UV rays. SPF 15 or 30 is recommended. My skin can be very much a combination of oily to dry, so this Nivea bottle is the perfect fit. Boots, 3.99
  2.  Layer SPF over an antioxidant serum like this Vitamin C Facial Radiance. Serums are good for adding an extra defense layer against skin-damaging factors like drinking and stress. Body Shop, £16
  3. Give your face a deep clean twice every day with a gentle cleanser especially after nights out. That is my weakness- crashing in bed with mascara and glitter still running down my face! But sleeping in your make-up with all the dirt and oil can hinder your skin’s natural repairing process. This pot is a great multi-tasker and can be used on your body too- apply on knees and elbows before topping with fake tan. Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser, £4.07
  4. Three times a week, swap your cleanser for an exfoliating scrub to remove any dead skin cells and feel like your face is super soft and clean. Again- this selection is great for combination skin. Nivea Daily Essentials Exfoliating Scrub, £3.99

So what i’ve learnt is…. in your 20s you don’t need to be using all the fancy anti-wrinkle products just yet. But you do need to lock down a skincare routine with these kinds of essential beauty products. But remember, just like i’ve done, you don’t even have to break the budget.

Here are some top tips from Health Perch for what you can be doing in your 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s to prevent skin aging:

Prevent and Treat Skin Aging, No Matter How Old You Are
“Prevent and Treat Skin Aging, No Matter How Old You Are” on Health Perch

It really doesn’t takes too much effort to treat your skin and if it prevents you from looking like a shrivelled prune at 50. I’m all for it.

Beauty sale haul at the office!

It’s not everyday you get an amazing beauty haul like this for just £2 and without having to barely move from your desk at work. That is definitely one of the perks of where I work- the Notebook Magazine’s beauty team will occasionally hold a sale of beauty products featuring make-up, pamper gift sets, fake tan, hair treatments and it’s not just the cheap stuff either they’re all the fab brands too! I’m not great at maths but 5 things, that wouldn’t necessarily be in my current spending budget, for just £2 is an amazing deal!

What I’ve added to my beauty bag:

Morrocon argon oil- I love nourishing my hair with argon oil every now and then and since i’ve been using it I’ve definitely seen a huge improvement to my dry, damaged, bleached and split-ended hair! So i’m very glad I now have some more.

Barry M Nail Varnish- I’ve wanted to try Barry M’s new ‘Sunset Daylight Curating’ collection for a while now and I particularly loved this colour. Blue shades are always a favourite of mine for all-season manicures and this totally stood out to me! I was letting no-one at work get their hands on this as soon as I saw it. I coudln’t wait to try it out and was so pleased when I used it- the paint literally dried in about 30 seconds. Didn’t even need to fear about smudging!

Co Lab Dry Shampoo- I thought this miniature bottle would be perfect for taking to Ibiza as I can only take a small amount of luggage for the journey. Dry shampoo is definitely a hair essential especially for the occasional on-the-go greasy hair days! This one smells gorgeous too with its lush fresh summer smell.

No 7 Nail Varnish- I don’t think there has ever come a summer season when i’ve not worn coral nail varnish, either on my toes or my fingers, it’s always been a summer must-have shade for me!

Bare Minerals Primer I was so happy when I saw this in the make-up box as I had literally just days before ran out of mine at home! I love using this before nights out for that extra coverage and it really helps keep your make-up on all night- without having to worry about doing a touch up.

IMG_2142

I’d never been to one of the sales before but oh my god it was carnage! Women were coming from everywhere- huge bags at the ready to get their bargains. I would have probably came out with a hell of a lot more if it wasn’t so claustrophobic and their wasn’t so much wrist slapping in the make-up bins! Next time I’m going to go in all guns blazing!

#MidweekManicure: Summer Sparkle Nails

I totally love blue nail varnish shades for the summer but what I love even more is glitter and lots of it! There’s something about these nails I did this week that makes me feel like a mermaid! They just look like the sparkling ocean- perfect if you’ve got any paradise getaways this year or want to bring some statement sparkle to your off-duty weekend looks.

All I did to get this gorgeous sparkly look was use two colours- my new favourite Barry M gelly ‘Blueberry’ shade topped with my L.A glitterbomb ‘Aqua’ shade. After using a basecoat on my nails, I painted one coat of the pastel blue colour. This is why I love the gelly range so much- you only need one coat and it’s instantly got the perfect thickness and perfect glossines. No hastle or extra waiting to see your new look! Over this colour, I then painted on the clear blue tinted glitter varnish and was immediately ready to get out in the sunshine and show them. I finished with a top coat for extra shine and wholla the perfect holiday/statement sparkle nails! Or mermaid nails… they can definitely be called mermaid nails!
