Happy New Year! My highlights of 2015 and some 2016 ideas for you

So the new year started with a bang… from what I have heard. Unfortunately I can’t actually remember the first few hours of 2016 as I may have got a little too excited about the festivities. I did drink a third of a bottle of champagne before I’d even put my sparkly dress on!

I can’t believe how fast 2015 went, it just flew by but I have had one of my favourite years so far and these are definitely my highlights:

2015 has been great… especially my trips to Newcastle, Cambridge, Ibiza, Sunny Beach and Bruge!! And despite turning 20 this year I’m glad I have still embraced my inner child riding all of the rides at Thorpe Park, ridding Harry’s broom and flying Ron’s car at Harry Potter world and visiting Hertfordshire Zoo and London Zoo.

New things I’ve done this year that I would love to do again and definitely recommend is a partying at a silent disco, having yourself a go at punting and seeing the Angel of the North in Newcastle.

London life

Things I have loved about my second year living in the city… watching my fave chick flick, Mean Girls, on a sunny rooftop in Fulham Broadway, scaring all of the tourists when I dressed up as a petrifying Cheshire Cat for Halloween and partying at Notting Hill Carnival for the first time where I tried Caribbean jerk chicken. Mmm mm Summer in London this year was wicked!

Winter

But I can’t work out if Christmas in London was even better… my favourite winter moments were  sipping a cocktail from a frozen glass in the Ice Bar, while wearing a huge igloo cape, and typically being a regular at Winter Wonderland and its German Bar.  But this year I got to embarrass myself going down the Magical Ice Kingdom slide and also watch Cirque Berserk, which was absolutely incred! This Christmas we did ice skating at Somerset House and I’m so glad we did because it is just one of prettiest places i’ve seen in London especially when it’s all Christmasy.

Music

I have seen some of my favourite DJs, bands and artists play live this year and my highlights have got to be…

Chase & Status at Amnesia in Ibiza. This might even be one of the highlights of the life. I saw Chase & Status about three years ago at Reading festival and ever since I’ve been desperate to see them again! And omg there were even better abroad… probably because I dancing on the podium the all night grabbing strobe lights straight apposite the DJ set.

Rudimental at Ally Pally in North London. I loved this night even more because Alexandra Palace is such an amazing venue… You would actually feel like a Princess in a place if you were wearing a ball gown. I definitely recommend going to a gig there! I’ve seen Rudimental three times and they’ve never failed to impress… I loved it this year because their guest singers were flawless and I still can’t stop playing ‘Lay it on me’ all the time!

BESTIVAL. I know I go every year, so it’s no surprise this was one of my highlights!

Bestival - Day 4

I’ve got to say though this year my faves were defs The Jacksons (can you believe they’re actually grown ups now?!), Duke Dumont, sweating it out in the Bollywood tent for Shy Fx, dancing in the pouring rain with the girls squeezing under one rain cape for Mark Ronson and of course Annie Mac at the port- she’s amazing every year!

#MidweekManicure: Block Colour Nails

For my birthday one of the presents from the girls was an awesome Nail Art Book with loads of cool patterns and paint ideas to try for my #MidweekManicure posts. This week I decided to try out the block effect on my nails using a pastel blue shade and a metallic silver together.

IMG_1931

The girls got me a new BarryM Gelly paint in the Blueberry shade- a gorgeous colour for this Summer season and it matches perfectly with my new dress! This nail trend was so easy to do. After buffing and filing my nails I used my L.A base coat varnish before painting two layers of the pastel blue over all of my nails.

IMG_1930

Top tip: Paint from your baby finger to your thumb to save your hand from smudging your nails as it moves across the hand.

Once the the blue is dry, carefully paint the top half of your nails with a new colour. I thought my L&B metallic silver went great with the summer shade to create the perfect sparkly holiday look. I recommend to again do two coats of this. Barry M’s Gelly collection is great for shine and the shellac-like paint means it will last for a good length of time. To finish it off just add a top coat for extra shine and protection.

And wahla the perfect birthday, holiday summertime block-print nails that will take you straight from sunbathing on the beach to dancing the night away at an Ibiza boat party!

Summertime Healthy Dinner Inspiration

I’ve mentioned it a few times on my blog and am gradually fulfilling my New Years’ resolution to learn how to cook. Well i’ve recently made substantial progress and finally cooked my first ever meal for my family so I thought I ‘just have to blog about this’ huge step of my life! They were very wary to start with but gave me a chance and left the kitchen to me.

I decided to make a few different dishes- something everyone can pick at and food that’s healthy. Well really I thought if anything goes wrong, at least there might be one good dish still standing haha! It’s so nice that the evenings are light again and being at home is great because we have a lovely garden to sit outside and eat together. So I went for a BBQ-esque summer time meal- food that can be cooked on the barbecue or just as well in the oven (gotta be prepared for the English summertime weather!)

IMG_1673

On the menu:

  • Soy sauce and honey marinated chicken
  • Light Halloumi cheese, cherry tomato and mixed pepper skewers coated in lemon, olive oil, chili and mixed herbs
  •  Roasted sweet potatoes drizzled with olive oil, rosemary and lots of black pepper (bake for a good half hour/45 mins to get them crispy)
  • Grilled asparagus wrapped in parma ham- so easy to chuck on the BBQ on hot days
  • Tomato and cucumber salad tossed in lemon juice, olive oil and seasoning- Tasted lush with the chicken!

I even made a garlic mayo to go with the sweet potato wedges! So easy to do- I just mixed 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 1 crushed garlic clove, a squeeze of lemon juice and some black pepper. It tasted sooo good with the sweet potato!

IMG_1675

I’d only tried the Cypriot cheese for the first time on Friday so I think my family were very impressed that I actually manged to cook a good dish with it! Everything went down a treat which made me happy! I can actually cook, yay!

If you’re like me and not quite the Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson just yet, surprise your family and friends with these dishes this Summer. Light, easy and very tasty.

Happy cooking!

Essential Summer Accessory: The Baseball Cap

Baseball hats aren’t just for playing on the field, they’re a must-have for your Spring/Summer wardrobe and possibly one of the cutest and sportiest current trends. The fashionable staple item will bring your sports luxe look to life, keep you looking chic on those troublesome hair days and are the essential statement accessory to keep you dancing the weekend away this Festival season. I love this classic trend because it brings a masculine twist to any girlie outfit.

I’ve owned baseball caps since I was tiny weenie, but I’ve never been brave enough to wear them away from the sports field, but now that they are bang-on trend and it’s cool to accesorise them with ANY outfit, I couldn’t be happier! =

When I did Camp America in 2012 (best summer ever!) I lived in my Atlanta baseball cap and just looking through Fanatics hat collections, it brought back all of my amazing memories of teaching the kids the English version of baseball we play at home- Rounders. After browsing through all of the trendy designs, I found my fave from the Red Sox hats collection!black hat

The New Era Boston Red Sox snapback stood out to me the most because of its tradtional black and white colour scheme which makes it a fab accessory to pair with absolutely anything in your wardrobe! It will be the perfect match to my grey and red Boston sweater- my essential every-night sofa jumper for the past 2 years!

The Baseball cap is bang-on trend this season and has been mastered by some gorgeous faces in the public eye. Baseball caps aren’t only a male accessory anymore, they’re totally a hot item for women too and I’m totally crushin on Cara Delevingne and Rihanna’s statement looks- they rock the trend so effortlessly!

So whoever said a baseball hat isn’t a women’s wardrobe staple… here are my favourite four looks to prove them wrong.

The Sports Luxe trend is all about combining monochrome stripes with leather fabric to create the perfect statement look. Inspired by Vanessa Hudgens’ stylish take on the trend, I have put together my own look with the essential addition of this Boston Red Sox Baseball hat. Great for a cool statement weekend look or even to fashion-up a baseball game on the field.

And just as she shows off, Baseball hats are the perfect pair to a ponytail hairstyle. Phew! Now you can save your hair from blowing all over your face on your windy jog AND keep your head from getting sunburned. Result!

Now that the festival season has officially kicked off, with Coachella showcasing some fab looks for the Summer, it’s time you get your weekend looks ready to pack into your rucksack. A Baseball cap can be as cute of an accessory as a headband or flower, being the essential statement accessory to your weekend this year.

Baseball hats are a traditional all-round season item and can be worn with any off-duty outfit. Even on those hangover and ‘my hair just isn’t right’ days, a baseball cap will be your best friend. Khloe Kardashian, Rihanna and Cara Delevingne are three trendsetters who have mastered the baseball cap on casual days, pairing with denim fabrics, leather and stilettos.

Whatever look you’re going for, you can always count on a trendy baseball cap to top off any outfit! My favorite way to style my baseball caps are to wear them with a classic simple tee, high waisted denim shorts, chunky wedges and a floral statement necklace. The denim, sandals, and necklace come together as a casual feminine look, with the baseball cap and slouched tee making the outfit look effortless.

I also love to wear mine on holiday when i’m chilling at the pool or taking a wander down the beach. Not only are these hats super stylish and your best friend on troublesome hair days, they can work as a fab sun protector too. Pair with your fave bikini and sling-on a kimono for your ‘I’m in paradise’ look.
